Taoiseach opens Ireland's first custom-built Opera House in Wexford

Ireland’s cultural landscape has been magnificently transformed now that An Taoiseach, Mr. Brian Cowen, has officially opened the country’s first custom-built Opera House in Wexford.

State-of-the-art Wexford Opera House set to open September 2008

(Wexford, Thursday February 28, 2008) The Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism, Mr Séamus Brennan T.D. today announced that the construction of the Wexford Opera House, Ireland’s newest multi-purpose, arts performing centre is nearing completion and will open in September 2008.

Designed and project managed by the Office of Public Works, in association with Keith Williams Architects, this landmark building - Ireland’s first purpose-built 21st Century Opera House - will house 41% more audience than the previous Theatre Royal, ensuring a greater number can enjoy a wide variety of performances.

Local community invited to participate in official opening of Wexford Opera House


(Wexford, Wednesday August 13, 2008) Ireland’s most modern custom-built multi-functional opera house - the Wexford Opera House - will officially open over the weekend of September 5-7, culminating in a free-of-charge ‘Open Day’ when the building will be opened for the local community to visit.


The official opening ceremony of the building will be performed by An Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, on Friday, September 5th, prior to his appearance later that evening on Ireland’s most popular and longest-running chat show, The Late Late Show which will broadcast the first of its new season live from the main auditorium, the John and Aileen O’Reilly Theatre.

Wexford Opera House extends ‘Open-Day’ due to overwhelming demand

(Thursday, 14 August 2008) Due to an overwhelming response from the public, Wexford Opera House announces extended opening hours for their ‘Open-Day’ which takes place on Sunday 7 September 2008. Shortly after the release of tickets the free event was completely sold out, prompting the management of Wexford Opera House to extend the Open Day by a further 3 hours. Now 300 more people can view Wexford’s state-of-the-art Opera House. Tours will now run for a full 12 hours from 9.00am to 9.00pm on Sunday 7 September 2008, with the last tour taking place at 8.00pm.
