Consider Yourself! Auditions for ‘Oliver!’

Consider yourself an ‘Oliver’ or an ‘Artful Dodger’? Then the Internationally award-winning Dublin-based company, Festival Productions want to see and hear you for their upcoming production of ‘Oliver!’ in Wexford Opera House this Christmas season.

Following his 3rd successive win as ‘Best Director’ at the Buxton International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival and the enormous success of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and ‘Annie!’ in the National Concert Hall, Director Vivian Coates brings to Wexford Opera House this spectacular Christmas production of the much loved family musical.

Commenting on his decision to audition this production locally, Artistic Director of Festival Productions, Tony Finnegan said, ‘We are committed to gathering the very best cast available. Given Wexford’s reputation for its high standard of performers and productions from the amateur drama and musical societies, we felt that Wexford was certainly the place to begin the process.’

The idea to cast in Wexford was vigorously encouraged by Director, People and Culture for Wexford Opera House, Thomas de Mallet Burgess. ‘It is an ongoing ambition of mine to put Wexford Opera House at the heart of our local community. The audience for different events has been as varied as our programming and I want even more people to participate in as many different ways as possible. By holding auditions fort 'Oliver!' here, we can reach further into the community of Wexford and encourage a whole new group of people to make Wexford Opera House their cultural home.'

Auditions for principal characters and chorus will take place at Whites Hotel on September 20th and 21st and in Wexford Opera House on September 22nd. Adults and children wishing to audition need to prepare a song and come along at the specified time. Oliver! is brimful of many well known musical numbers such as “Pick a Pocket or Two”, “I’d do Anything”, “As long as He needs Me”, “Consider Yourself”, “Oom-Pah–Pah!” and “Food, Glorious Food” to name a  few, so finding something to sing shouldn’t be too difficult.

Although casting hasn’t yet commenced, tickets for this most magical of musicals go on sale at Wexford Opera House, Friday, September 4. “Oliver!” runs from December 22-30, with a brief break over Christmas.
