Hiring the Venue

Image from Back of House at a Wexford Opera Production Individuals and organisations interested in hiring Wexford Opera House have the choice of two wonderful venues: the John and Aileen O’Reilly Theatre and the Jerome Hynes Theatre.

International acoustician Arup Acoustics is responsible for the acoustic design of Wexford Opera House, which has been designed to provide a world-class acoustic environment. Arup is responsible for the acoustics at the new opera houses in Copenhagen and Oslo, the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff and Glyndebourne Opera to name but a few.

John and Aileen O’Reilly Theatre

The John and Aileen O’Reilly Theatre has a seating capacity of 769 (when the orchestra pit is in use) and 853 seats up to proscenium. The auditorium layout is a stall and two tiers arrangement. The highlight of the auditorium, visually, is the American Black Walnut lining.

The stage performance area, compared to the Theatre Royal, has increased in size by 130%. The stage is flat, with traditional proscenium, and an optional forestage or orchestra pit. There is a rear stage scene dock and six control booths on two levels.

Approximate dimensions are as follows:
Proscenium: width 9m x height 7.5m
Stage: width including wings 21m, 16.8m between fly galleries
depth 10.5m / 13m or 16m depending on optional forestage lifts / orchestra pit
height 20m to grid, 8m to fly galleries

Jerome Hynes Theatre

For a more intimate space, the Jerome Hynes Theatre is a black box theatre that offers great versatility. The total seating capacity of this theatre is 172, and the seats are retractable (bar a small number in the balcony).

On request, full technical specifications can be provided for both theatres.

Back Stage Facilities
The facilities on offer for visiting companies to either performance space include:
• twelve 2/3 person dressing rooms all with showers and / or toilets (three under stage, nine one level up)
• two 30 person chorus dressing rooms on two levels
• laundry, wardrobe making, wigs and make up rooms
• back stage elevator
• green room with kitchenette adjacent to stage
• stage management / production office adjacent to stage
• rehearsal space

Other Facilities
• Wexford Opera House offers an online booking facility as well as the option of
booking tickets through all the usual methods
• additional, smaller areas in the building suitable for small recitals, readings or lectures
• two large bars, three smaller bars and ample foyer space
• corporate hospitality rooms
